It’s been a while since I posted anything, and honestly, there’s not much to post. While I have several projects ‘in the works’, none of them are really ‘complete’. Mornings have gone from project time to getting the boys up for swim practice, and, as of a few weeks ago, taking care of our new puppy, Luna.
After years of begging my husband to get a dog, I finally convinced him that when the boys go back to school this fall, I’m going to be lonely at home all day and needed a puppy:) Luna is an Aussiedoodle, and I was able to keep it a complete surprise to the boys for weeks before we brought her home! Everyone loves her (except maybe my husband), but it’s been so long since I had a new puppy, I forgot how time consuming it is to train them! She’s done great in her kennel at night, but in the morning, we go outside about 5 times in under an hour!
Aside from that, we’ve of course tried to squeeze in a few beach trips this summer, weekends at the lake when the weather is good, and my afternoons are typically spent working on my parents room renovation/addition. And, while I’m learning a lot and doing things I’ve never done, or haven’t done often (like pouring foundations, framing exterior walls, installing windows, etc.), it definitely takes a lot of time when you’re mostly working by yourself.
The one thing I can say for certain is that I don’t know how I could possibly do all of this if I was still working a full time day job. I thought the other night on the way to my boys swim meet how nice it was to not have to ask to leave work early just to make it to the end of the meet, or to be rushing to get there from work. I can also say that I used to be jealous of teachers and those who had summers ‘off’ because I thought it meant sleeping in and lounging around….nope! Alarm still goes off at 6am to start the day!
Even with all the business, early mornings and mountains of laundry that seem to be created in the summer, I wouldn’t want it any other way! I’m thankful everyday that I decided to leave my job and am able to be here for my boys (and now the puppy). And, while projects may not be getting ‘finished’ right now, I’m getting done what I can, when I can and trying to enjoy the last few weeks before they start school.
This weekend will be their final swim meet, then their year-end party, after that, a few days at the beach for some back to school shopping and beach time. And, they’ve been begging to go see the new Boss Baby movie, so we’re going to try to squeeze that in too. Time goes so fast, and, while it’s almost been a year since I left my job, it feels like it was just the other day.
So, with all that said, I’ll try to post some updates on some of the projects I have going on, but, for the next few weeks, I’m planning to soak up the last few weeks of summer (even if it means that I sit and stare at three ‘mostly done’ projects sitting in my dining room)!
