One of the other major projects that was on the list to complete while we were in Texas was to replace the insulation and drywall that had been torn out from the water leak. I included all the supplies on the spreadsheet for my brother to order before we got there, so we had all the insulation (R13 for the walls and R16 for the ceiling), drywall, screws, corner bead, etc., we needed. The only downside was that when Home Depot delivered, they stacked the drywall on top of the plywood we needed to fix the upstairs patio (which was the first project), so the first thing I had to do was move ALL the sheets of drywall to another stack….talk about a workout!
I also had my brother get an air compressor and staples and packed my staple gun to make the insulation go in a lot faster. I also packed my safety glasses and gloves since I knew we’d be installing insulation overhead.
Once the new dryer vent was ran and my husband installed a few plugs my brother wanted added (for a future fridge/freezer), we proceeded with insulation in the entire garage.
Once that was complete, we started on the drywall. My husband and brother got the overhead pieces in and much of the wall board. We did get a little further than what I have pictured, but it wasn’t finished. Since we decided to knock out that living room wall, we just ran short on time to complete all the drywall in the garage, so it’s a task left for my brother to finish. However, having the insulation installed along the wall that runs along the laundry room/bathroom, as well as having insulation in the ceiling, seemed to be helping immensely with the air conditioning inside the house, and should help with utility bills going forward. You could feel the difference if you moved a piece of the insulation along that wall for sure! I wish we could’ve gotten it finished, but it was a good start and something he can work on in the evenings/weekends until it’s finished. I had included the mud, tape, cornerbead and sandpaper on my list, and we left him two mud knives and the pole sander attachment as well, so he has everything he needs to get it done:)
